The travails of Japanese car makers continue today with the Nissan Motor Company announcing it is to recall nearly 540,000 vehicles globally, with the majority of the recalls affecting the US.

The recall concerns defects affecting brake pedals and faulty fuel gauges. It also applies to vehicles in Canada, Mexico, the Middle East, Ukraine, Russia and Taiwan.

Nissan said in a statement that it plans to “inspect and, if necessary, repair brake pedal pins and fuel-gauge components on certain trucks and minivans”.

The company said no accidents or injuries have been reported arising from these issues.

The models with faulty brake pedals are Titan pick-up trucks, Armada and Infiniti QX56 SUVs and Quest minivans built between 2008 and 2010.

The faulty fuel gauge recall applies to the Titan, Armada and Infiniti QX56 built from 2005 to 2008, and the Frontier, Pathfinder and Xterra produced between January and March 2006 and between October 2007 and January 2008.
